![]() Kevin R. Johnson, M.A. ![]() a portrait of Kevin Johnson by a seven-year-old girl. |
Kevin Johnson received his undergraduate degree from
St. John's College
in 1993, where students read and discuss the great works of Western Civilisation.
The cooperative learning style required in this program helped him to
develop tutoring skills that he has since used in a professional capacity
with gifted children. Kevin received his Masters in Clinical Mental Health
Counseling from Lesley
University in 1998. Lesley's program is famous for having developed
a very strong core curriculum in the social sciences, as well as for its
cutting-edge, holistic approach to clinical supervision and practice.
During his training, Kevin did an internship at the Berklee
College of Music, a school with a great many gifted and talented students.
Kevin discovered his calling to work with gifted children while attending the annual conference of the Hollingworth Center for Highly Gifted Children. Since that time he has devoted himself to the service of this population. His background in philosophy, literature, and psychology are all of assistance to him in understanding the complex, intense, and profound inner life of gifted children. He is currently applying himself to an in-depth study of the works of Kazimierz Dabrowski, one of the great theorists of gifted psychology. Kevin also worked at Building Blocks, which provides specialized services to children under three years old who are at risk for autism, pervasive developmental disorder, and Asperger's syndrome. Based on this experience, Kevin is beginning to develop an expertise in gifted children whose developmental profile includes traits of autism or Asperger's syndrome. Kevin was appointed as the Gifted Children Program Coordinator for Boston Mensa in January 2001. He was appointed as a Board Member for the Massachusetts Association for Gifted Education in August, 2001. He was appointed as American Mensa, Ltd.'s National Gifted Children Program Coordinator in July, 2002. Kevin has done presentations, consultations, and in-service trainings in gifted psychology for the following organizations:
